Save money on groceries
There are so many ways to save money on groceries. Coupons can be a great way to save money. If you have a hard time staying organized enough to keep track of them, or just don’t have the time, you may be looking for other options. Paying full-price for groceries is so expensive, so it may be necessary to figure out something else.
Money saving tips:
- Plan ahead, figure out what you need and make a list.
- Plan meals based on what you already have and what’s on sale.
- Buy produce when it’s in season. You can buy large amounts of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries when they’re on sale. Wash and dry them and then freeze them to use the rest of the year.
- Try to combine coupons or rebates with store sales. Stock up on items you frequently buy during sales.
- Use apps (below) and combine current deals with store sales.
9 Apps that will save you money while grocery shopping:
Ibotta
You can read my post on Ibotta here. Basically, they have grocery rebates that you can earn through this app. I have earned about $85 in the last 3 months.
Download all of the rebates that you think you might use. Before your next shopping trip, browse the rebates to see if there is anything you need. After shopping, scan your receipt and you’ll get your rebate within a few hours.
There are also some bonuses that we can earn as a team, so use join my team by using my referral code when you sign up: wffgglt
Shopkick
This is a way to earn points for walking into certain stores and opening their app at the door. You can also earn points by scanning specific items in the store. It could be a good app for you, depending on how much you shop.
An easy way to earn points is to go to the mall and walk through several stores in one trip. Also, you can earn points for referring friends, so use my referral code or link and then invite your friends so you can earn some points. Referral code: argon61851
Smiths card (or your local store card)
Living in Utah, I am very close to several Smiths stores and so I end up shopping there a lot. It’s so easy to download coupons to the Smiths shopper card.
Every Friday they offer a coupon for one free item. All you need to do is to go in once each week to dowload that and any other coupons you might use. If you’re not near Smiths, checkout the deals at your local store.
Amazon.com
It’s surprising how many great grocery deals can be found on Amazon. Their prices can change quickly though, so if you see a great deal, you might want to snag it before the price changes. You can shop from home without dragging the kids to the store and your groceries are delivered right to your door.
Sometimes they have some great subscribe and save coupons that you can “clip” on their site. In order to use these, you do need to subscribe, but after the item ships you can always go back in to your account and cancel the subscription.
Target Cartwheel App
Purchase food, clothing, etc at Target through discounts or coupons that you add through this app.
Checkout51
Download this app onto your phone or use it online. Star the items that you think you will purchase and then after you purchase them, submit your receipt. Once you reach $20 in rebates, you can cash out. I’m pretty new at this app, but trying it out.
Receipt Hog
Download the app onto your phone. Take pictures of your receipts to earn coins or slot machine spins. Redeem coins for cash or gift cards. You can use my code to help me earn some spins and you’ll also get a bonus: skoss522. I’m still new to this one, so if you use it, let me know how you like it.
SavingStar
Download this app on your phone or open it online. When you set up your account you can enter card numbers from certain stores, but others you will need to submit your receipt in order to get a rebate.
Freebies2Deals
This isn’t really an app, but a great blog that puts together lists of weekly deals.
Keep it simple
The trick to using these apps is to try to be as efficient as possible. I usually download all of my rebates/coupons from the above apps every Friday. Or if there’s another day that I’m watching a movie at home or sitting in the car waiting for my kids, I’ll do it then.
Figure out what works for you
One thing that I also love is that many of these apps offer rebates on produce, which there aren’t many coupons for. You may want to look into these, but then do what works for your schedule and figure out what’s realistic for you. Comment below and let me know how you save money on groceries.

I love saving money on groceries. I buy mostly organic so it gets crazy expensive if you don’t look for deals. One of my favorite tips you mentioned is buying in season. Things are just so crazy expensive out of season. I also use Amazon subscribe and save. I get a lot of pet food through them, but sometimes get vitamins or protein bars. I’ll check out the apps you mentioned that I haven’t tried.

Organic does get expensive. And yes, Amazon can have some great deals on pet food. Hopefully some of the apps will work for you 🙂
