Going through Idaho on a road trip and don't know what to do? Check out this Old peniteniary! You can walk through on your own or join up a tour. It's amazing to see how the inmates lived in this old prison. It's also incredible that the simplest things landed them there for life. Such an interesting part of history that you can actually walk through.

Visiting Idaho

During our Washington road trip, we were driving from Utah to Washington. I’m a single parent and so I was the only one driving.  I didn’t sleep well the night before leaving for our trip and was exhausted. I could also tell that my kids were pretty tired and it was only the first day of our trip. We were glad that we ended up visiting Idaho on the way.

Hotel

I was so glad that I had booked a room through Priceline.  We got a good deal on a nice room at a Marriott hotel. We were able to relax and swim and actually ended up getting a good nights sleep there.

The Old Idaho Penitentiary

We also decided to see the Old Idaho Penitentiary while we were here. It was much bigger than we realized and fun to see.  The hours are 10-5:00. Since it was already closed,  we decided to go as soon as it opened in the morning.  They did offer group tours, but they were 1 1/2 hours and we didn’t want to spend that much time there. We decided to walk through ourselves- not realizing how much there was to see.  We still ended up being there for an hour. There really was a lot to see. Plus there was a small museum there. I’m sure if you did go through the whole tour you would learn a lot of history about this place.
